For her upcoming story, New Music in Sacred Space, NPR Washington Bureau Reporter NEDA ULABY teams up with African Musical Arts to tape a live recording, featuring Songs of Africa Ensemble with combined choirs of Pilgrim Congregational Church and Union Avenue Christian Church. December 30, 2012 at 4:00PM:  Songs of Africa Ensemble rounds up a successful year with a free concert at the "acoustically astonishing" Pilgrim Congregational Church. This is the group's last concert for the year, and as has been the tradition for years, Songs of Africa Ensemble will use a variety of songs to highlight the seven principles of Kwanzaa. The concert will include beloved favorites with our audiences such as the Namibian chant, Tuli-Tuli, the Kenyan welcome song, Jambo, and the catchy South African dance tune, Pata-Pata (made popular by the late Miriam Makeba). Audiences will also hear exciting new additions to Songs of Africa Ensemble, such Bostwanan work-song, Hepepe, the Yoruba Carol, Irapada, which they will perform jointly with the choir from Pilgrim Congregational Church. 826 Union Blvd., St Louis, MO.
